The sun was shining in Sydney for The Championships Day 1 at Royal Randwick yesterday with plenty of champagne, fashion, food and of course betting!

Part one of the Grand Finals was headlined by one of the world’s richest open sprint race, the $2.5 million Darley TJ Smith Stakes, the $3 million The Star Doncaster Mile, and the $2 million BMW Australian Derby.

Although black and white was the traditional dress code there was plenty of colour to be seen. Australian actress and ATC ambassador Melina Vidler joined racegoers in dressing in black and white to keep with the tradition of the day the Derby is raced.

The Fashion Chute presented by TheRaces.com.au with racegoers showcasing their best black and white fashion to go in the winning to win a once in a lifetime return trip to Europe.

Champagne and freshly shucked oysters went down a treat!

The Star Sydney returned with an exclusive function, offering a number of festival style activations track side to bring a taste of The Star to Royal Randwick with The Star ambassador Erin Holland in attendance.

We were out and about taking photos that showcase the fashions, atmosphere and good times. Many men also adorned hats and looked very dapper.

A live performance ended the day with international megastar Ronan Keating.
