Vale Dorren Warburton
One of the most respected and loved women in Australian Theatre has moved on. Doreen Warburton, born in London in 1930, migrated to Australia in 1953 and ten years later, founded the Q Theatre that provided lunchtime theatre in Sydney.
In the late 1970s she took theatre to the Western Suburbs, opening the Q in Penrith. In 2005 the Q moved venue to the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre in another part of Penrith.
In the 35 years that I knew Doreen, I didn’t hear a negative word about her, which is a first in the world of theatre and is testament to her contribution and personality.
R.I.P. one of the greats.
