Nurse’s Walk, The Rocks

Most Sydneysiders probably don’t spend much time wandering the laneways of The Rocks. But there’s now even more reason to check out the traditional tourist haunt with the opening of the new restaurant Tayim at the Harbour Rocks hotel.

Tayim presents a modern take on Middle Eastern flavours to The Rocks. At the opening event we were treated to snacks including creamy labneh, grilled corn, pickles and olives. The babaganoush was a standout – beautifully presented with a super smoky punch. The grilled lamb skewers and falafel were also great, and the semolina rose pudding was a desert to go back for.

The interiors are restored sandstone, and the venue has a warm and open feel, with a stylish bar, open grill with communal dining, and several different dining spaces to enjoy.

The verandah at the front of the venue is the perfect place for a drink and a snack after a long day. You won’t be able to resist people watching as you overlook Nurse’s walk, or you can just sit and wonder about early life in the colony in this historic part of town.

While you’re there, see if you can find the garden terrace - a hidden gem, where guests and patrons can relax above the inner-city din, surrounded by nature and decorated with Middle Eastern flair.
