There are plenty of places to have hight tea in Sydney but for Chocolate High Tea head down to Abode Bistro and Bar situated in the PARKROYAL Darling Harbour. The first thing that you will notice when you enter this delightful venue is the decor. There's a lovely ambience to this place and it's certainly somewhere I'd go and have a quiet drink with a friend. However I digress, this post is about the High Tea experience. I was greeted by Angelo who escorted me to my table. My table was situated under the window, and I sat on the bench side with the light behind me. It's very comfortable seating and I had a view at the open kitchen which I always enjoy; watching the chefs busy preparing meals.
Hailey, my waitress came and took my order and I chose the Rose with French Vanilla Tea to go with my food. That turned out to be a very good choice. Angelo also suggested I sample the Italian Almond Tea and that too was delicious and I'll be searching the stores to find both from stores, the tea is Dilmah if you are wondering.
Once the High Tea arrived Hailey explained what was on offer on each tray. My eyes couldn't keep off the chocolate fondue! More of that later.
The Savoury tastings are:
Chicken and apple slaw finger sandwich
Crab, cucumber and watercress butter finger sandwich
Broccoli and blue cheese tart
Chicken liver pater on chocolate brioche toast with whisky soaked raisins
Asian cured trout crepes with caramel yoghurt, spinach and ocean trout poppers
Sweet corn tart
Prawn ceviche (not on plate in seperate bowl)
The pastry on the tarts were soft and buttery. Both were delicious but I adored the blue cheese and broccoli. The sandwiches were a lovely combination of ingredients.
The chicken liver pate was quite unusual, I could taste the pate and it had a slight hint of chocolate with the whisky soaked raisins giving it that sweet touch.
As a lover of cured trout the crepe lived up to expectation and on the subject of seafood, the prawn ceviche was a tangy citrus and colourful dish, full of flavour and refreshing.
The Sweet tastings are:
Dominican Republic white chocolate tiramisu
Cuban black chocolate jaffa cake
Venezuelan chocolate roulade
Indonesian chocolate mint crunch
Grandma's homemade scones and jam
Chilled Madagascan chocolate fondue with raspberry meringue, coconut marshmallow and macerated fruit
If you are a chocolate lover this is the high tea for you! I went straight for the fondue and OMG what more can I say; dipping fresh fruit into chocolate is divine and dipping marshmallows and meringue is wicked! But worth it!
The different chocolate tastings from around the world was fun. My favourite was the tiramisu followed by the roulade. Each one was a delight and I only had a tiny taste of each because by now I was pretty full. I saved room for one of Grandma's scones though! You can't have high tea without a scone. Chef Anthony told me that the scones were really grandma's recipe when he came and chatted to me regarding the restaurant. From my conversation with Chef I could see his passion for creating beautiful recipes.
