The Home Christmas Helper: Preparing Your Home For the Holiday Season

Preparing Your Home For the Holiday Season

With the holiday season just around the corner, savvy homeowners are already planning for the festive season ahead. The holidays are a busy time in homes all over Australia and you need to be ready for your guests and all of the traffic moving through your home. With a little preparation, however, you can be sure that you are full-prepared to cope with the holiday season ahead and enjoy every moment.

Many homeowners take this opportunity to make updates to their home so it looks its best when guests come around. A fresh coat of paint, updating your upholstery or installing Ziptrak blinds are all great ways to rejuvenate your interior. However, if your budget won’t extend to larger renovations, there is still plenty you can do to get your home ready for the holiday season ahead.

Let’s take a look at just a few ways that you prepare your home for the upcoming festive season.

Preparing your home for Christmas

Clean Thoroughly

Before you do anything else, be sure to give your entire home a thorough clean. Go through each room slowly and meticulously, getting into every nook and cranny. Clear out any clutter and make sure your home is well presented. Once the holiday chaos begins your home will soon be turned upside down. A deep clean now will make the coming weeks a little easier.

Assess Your Furniture

As more people will be coming and going from your home throughout the holiday season, you need to ensure that you have enough furniture to accommodate everyone. Some fold-away chairs can be useful to have available if things get crowded. Blankets, beanbags and large cushions are a simple way to extend your patio area and give the kids somewhere safe to hang out, leaving more furniture space for the adults.

Start Decorating

Once your home is thoroughly cleaned and you have your furniture needs met, it’s time for the real fun to start. Before you start hanging your decorations, be sure to take some time to plan where everything is going to go. If you have a set routine that you follow each year, then be sure to go through it slowly to make sure you don’t forget anything. The last thing you want is to get all of your decorations down, only to realise half of them are in the wrong place and you have to start again. When your decorations are up, you and your family can really start embracing the holiday spirit.

Make Space In The Fridge

There’s no denying that the holidays are a time of over-indulgence that we all enjoy. To ensure that you have enough room for all the extra food and drinks, make sure to organise your fridge to make space. If you have a lot of guests coming, you may consider buying or borrowing a second fridge or keeping cold drinks in and Esky with plenty of ice. Hot Australian holiday temperatures require plenty of cooling, refreshing snacks and beverages so be sure that your kitchen has more than enough space.

Put On The Music And Let The Festivities Begin

Now that your home is holiday-ready, all that’s left is to put on your favourite holiday playlist, call your mates and start embracing the festive season. Having your home prepared ahead of time will mean less stress in the lead-up to the holidays, allowing you more time to soak up the atmosphere and spend more time with your family and friends. With everything in place, you can relax and enjoy the holidays knowing that all of the hard work is behind you and there are only good times ahead!
