Hotel Review: Rydges Sydney Airport

Rydges Sydney Airport would have to be the most convenient hotel for travel ever! It's literally 181 steps from the International Check in Desks. To reach the hotel, guests walk outside the International Terminal, cross the road and voilà! Rydges Sydney Airport is literally on the doorstep.

I'd love to write that I was staying overnight before a long haul flight to New York but that would be me telling porkies; I was actually travelling to Byron Bay so it was the Domestic Airport I was heading to the next day.

My room at Rydges Sydney Airport was clean, fresh and it had the best plane spotting view ever! Check out some of the planes I took photos of from my window.

The room had a great mini bar to choose from, however the hotel also has two bars, a restaurant and of course you are so close to the airport you can nip over there to find food and drink as well. There is free wi-fi and the bathroom facilities are great.

The shower taps are conveniently situated where you don't have to get wet trying to find the right temperature, and the shower is very roomy! The toilet is completely closed off for privacy and the toiletries are lovely.

What better way to relax before or after a marathon flight than to sink into a comfortable bed in a hotel that is literally a minute's walk to the terminal? Rydges Sydney Airport is the ideal place to stay before or after a long haul flight. I couldn't help but smile to myself when I heard the laughter of little children, so excited to be going on a journey, a few times during my stay. It reminded me of my two when they were little and loved going on holidays.

I also checked out and used the hotel's gym and it has a good range of equipment for both cardiac and anaerobic exercise.

There are two bars at the hotel. One is up on the 9th floor, Cloud 9 Rooftop Bar, with fantastic views of the airport. Fabulous for plane spotting and the other is downstairs on the ground floor which also serves meals. The hotel also has a restaurant, Blackwattle Grill open for dinner and breakfast. The buffet breakfast had a nice selection of food which I enjoyed before heading to the domestic terminal for my flight the next morning.

For dinner I opted for a chicken schnitzel at the Touchdown Sports Bar which is the place to go for comfort food and Aussie beer on tap.

The bar has a great relaxed vibe about it. I observed people very chilled and enjoying the ambience of this bar and restaurant.

Situated in Touchdown is a quick grab and go breakfast coffee bar, Touch & Go, which is perfect for those on early flights and it opens at 4.00 a.m. The prices are reasonable too, especially when you consider the outrageous prices Sydney Airport food and beverage outlets charge.

Finally, it's worth mentioning the conference facilities. Having such a great conference area so close to the airport makes the perfect venue. It saves event planners having to worry about transporting delegates into the city, this alone is a cost saver. Take it from me as someone who spent 10 years in the MICE industry, I think holding a conference or meeting at Rydges Sydney Airport is a brilliant idea when you are flying guests in from interstate or overseas. It's a very funky area too.

In the morning, it was time to take the shuttle bus to the domestic terminal which the hotel provided for free.
