Vivid Sydney

sARTorial at Vivid Sydney is a celebration, an exhibition and a mind-bending master-class in the future of fash-tech built around a cocktail party on the MCA rooftop for the final night of Vivid Sydney.

Guests will be invited to participate with models and performers demonstrating prototype garments, with designers and engineers available to provide context for the concepts and technology being shown.

The culmination of cross-disciplinary collaborations, sARTorial will showcase the work of more than twenty designers, including award-winning wearables artist Erica Gray, interactive media artist Warren Armstrong, and Professor of Computer Science at Sherbrook University in Canada, Sylvain Giroux.

sARTorial curator, interactive fashion designer Zoe Mahony says “This is a unique showcase of garments responsive to proximity, touch and sound; using facial recognition technology, integrated digital systems, augmented reality and 3D printing. It’s where fashion becomes a tangible mediator of abstract technology.”

Drawing inspiration from diverse themes including environmental networks, crystalline structures and the future self, sARTorial designers and engineers have applied design thinking to both garments and accessories. Innovations range from responsive fibre concepts designed to encourage increased human social interaction, to garments that respond to a change in the environment.

To experience the future of fashion and technology, sARTorial will offer a fresh vision and a night of inspired ideas against the incredible backdrop of the Vivid Sydney light installations and projections at Circular Quay.
