Sydney design lovers have something to look forward to this September, with The Big Design Market returning to Carriageworks from 18–20 September 2026.

Bringing together more than 230 independent Australian designers alongside food, drinks, art and family-friendly activities, the three-day event is an opportunity to discover emerging makers as well as established favourites across fashion, jewellery, homewares, ceramics, art, lifestyle and more.

Discover Independent Australian Design

This year's market will showcase a broad mix of independent brands, including a substantial lineup of newcomers.

Among the new names in homewares are Noc Noc Workshop, creating colourful kiln-formed glass pieces; Georgia Rose Studio, whose wheel-thrown stoneware draws inspiration from traditional Japanese pottery and Mid Century Modern design; and Sydney-based Fuego & Piedra, producing handcrafted microcement furniture.

Fashion and jewellery newcomers include Van Brussel, known for tailored pieces made using natural fibres and premium deadstock fabrics; sustainable womenswear label Giliann; hemp and organic cotton streetwear brand Palmah; and Jules Vleugel, with a collection of playful, ethically handcrafted jewellery.

Visitors will also find new names across self-care, art and lifestyle, including Lost Towels, Kinology, Loop Lab, Emma Winton Design, The June Edit and The Puzzle Collab.

Em Hatton Named Guest Artist for 2026

Australian artist Em Hatton is this year's guest artist and will create a large-scale installation exclusively for the Sydney event.

Known for bold colour, playful storytelling and depictions of women occupying vibrant and sometimes surreal worlds, Hatton's work will also feature throughout The Big Design Market's 2026 campaign.

The Sydney-based artist founded Oddball Gallery in 2025 to champion emerging women artists and has since expanded her practice into murals and public art.

Come Hungry

The Big Design Market isn't just about shopping.

A sizeable food and drink lineup will bring together producers from Sydney and Melbourne, with everything from Italian fare, handmade pies and pizza to Vietnamese food, bagels, ice cream, cannoli, chocolates, cookies and doughnuts.

Sydney names include Wholegreen Bakery, Lucio Pizzeria, Brooklyn Boy Bagels, Bar Pho, THICC Cookies, Choccy Strawbs and Shortstop.

There will also be boutique wines, spirits and cocktails alongside plenty of non-alcoholic options, plus artisan cheeses, condiments, teas, coffee, honey and other take-home produce.

Visitors arriving between 4pm and 6pm on Friday can also enjoy a complimentary Pizzini Spritzzini Prosecco Lime Spritz.

Something for the Kids

Families haven't been forgotten. A dedicated children's creative area designed by Em Hatton will offer free colouring activities featuring the artist's work, giving younger visitors somewhere to stop and create during the day.

There will also be a Visitor Prize valued at more than $1,500, while the market's popular limited-edition show bags return with more than $150 worth of designer products for $25. Show bags will be available at the door, with a different selection each day and a limit of two per person.
