A Beautiful Variety of Tastes at Yayoi Sydney: Best Restaurants in Sydney

Last night I had the pleasure of being a guest at YAYOI Sydney to experience sensational YOZAKURA degustation menu which is made up of six courses, and priced at $65 pp (with the option of matching wines or sakes for an extra $20).

The venue is spotless and beautifully decorated. We had a window seat and enjoyed looking out at the trees and Sydney summer rain as we sampled this delightful menu. First things first though, service is very important to me when choosing a restaurant and the service we had was outstanding.

My favourite Japanese dish is Teriyaki Salmon and I was delighted it was on the menu! The salmon was cooked to perfection and served with vegetables, shimeji and salmon roe. A very nice combination and as you can see beautifully presented.

Miso Katsu: Pork fillet, slow cooked egg and shallot. The pork fillet is perfectly matched with miso, very tasty.

Wagyu Shabu Shabu: Wagyu, tofu, vegetables, shimeji, shitake, ponzu. Shabu Shabu a beautifully presented Japanese main dish, excellent taste with the wagyu melting in the mouth. Say no more!

Unagi Gohan: Unagi eel, kiamee rice, julienned omelette, chawanmushi and miso soup. Eel is another one of my favourite Japanese delights and this dish was delicious with the omelette making a good partner.

Time for dessert which was Warabi Mochi: Warrabi jelly, uji matcha from Kyoto, red beans and chestnets. A traditional Japanese dessert which was very cleansing. I found this an unusual yet interesting combination of tastes. By end of this meal I could not fit in another bite!

We also tasted two Sakes: Yoshinogawa est 1548 - Niigata Gensen Karakuchi which is a dry everyday drinking sake and Tengumai est 1823 - Ishikawa Umajun Junmai; a beautifully complex aroma with hints of vanilla and creamy texture. Elegant with a nice citrus crispness. Both were perfect with our meal.

Domo Arigato Yayoi.
