Experience the Sounds, Flavours and Style of Africa at Africultures Festival 2026

Sydney will come alive with the sounds, flavours, colours and creativity of Africa this October when Africultures Festival returns to Sydney Olympic Park.

Taking place at Cathy Freeman Park on Saturday 24 October 2026, the one-day festival brings music, food, fashion, art, dance and cultural experiences together in a celebration of the diversity of African cultures.

Now in its eighteenth year, Africultures has grown to become Australia's largest celebration of African cultures, welcoming people from all backgrounds to discover traditions and contemporary creativity from across the continent.

Africa at Africultures Festival - Taste Your Way Across Africa

One of the festival highlights is the Nile Food Court, where visitors can explore cuisines from East, West, North and Southern Africa.

Expect dishes including injera, doro wat, chapati, foo foo, thiéboudienne and jollof rice, alongside grilled meats, hibiscus drinks and plenty of other African flavours prepared by community cooks and food entrepreneurs.

For anyone who loves discovering a destination through its food, this could be reason enough to visit.

Live Music, Dance and Entertainment

Throughout the day, the Kilimanjaro and Serengeti stages will host musicians, dancers, drummers, DJs, cultural groups and emerging artists.

The program combines traditional cultural performances with contemporary African creative expression, making live entertainment a major part of the festival atmosphere.

Visitors can also get involved themselves at Djembe Corner, with interactive drumming workshops offering the chance to learn traditional rhythms, movement and cultural practices from community cultural practitioners.

African Fashion, Art and Design

More than 60 stalls will make up the African Marketplace, showcasing fashion, textiles, jewellery, homewares, visual art, beauty products and handcrafted pieces from artists, designers and small businesses.

The festival's popular Fashion Parade will also return, celebrating African and African-Australian style and bringing together traditional clothing, contemporary fashion and modern design.

A Festival for Families

Families haven't been forgotten. Watoto Corner is a dedicated children's precinct featuring cultural games, crafts, storytelling and creative activities.

New for 2026 is a Cultural Scavenger Hunt, designed to encourage children and families to explore the festival while learning more about the many cultures represented throughout the day.

Festival Director Fatma Mohamed says Africultures is about creating opportunities for people to experience the richness and diversity of African cultures through food, music, fashion, art and storytelling.

Beyond being a great day out, the festival provides a platform for African and African-Australian artists, performers, community organisations and small businesses to share their work with a wider Sydney audience.
