Four Great Film, Music, Video and Podcast Events at Vivid Ideas


For those who love film and screen gems, Vivid Sydney is bursting with creative capital. With young, emerging artists and film-makers making a mark, what better way to discover their amazing talent than to come along to one of the many Vivid Ideas events on as part of the Light, Music and Ideas festival.


Sydney Film Festival (5 June - 16 June 2019)

Sydney Film Festival

Held from 5 June to 16 June 2019, the Sydney Film Festival is the event of the year for film lovers. This year’s festival features a stunning lineup to suit everyone’s taste including Amazing Grace, a film celebrating the extraordinary talent of Aretha Franklin that includes previously unreleased footage of her show-stopping performance in 1972 that was captured by legendary filmmaker Sydney Pollack. Catch award-winning actor Dev Patel in the Michael Winterbottom’s action thriller The Wedding Guest, which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film. If you are into documentaries, check out Anthropocene: The Human Epoch, which explores the devastating impact humankind has had on the planet. As always, there is also an amazing selection of home-grown Australian movies including She Who Must Be Loved, which tells the tale of the pioneering indigenous film-maker Alfreda Glynn. Footy fanatics and sport fans more broadly will love The Final Quarter, which focuses on Adam Goodes’ last years of playing professional football and has already gained much attention for its insight into the heated debate on racism.


Freshfix Film Festival

In 2019, Freshflix Film Festival teams up again with Vivid Sydney to showcase the best emerging creative talent in the short film scene, both local and international. In addition to the festival program, this year there is a special late-night session with screenings of short films across horror, thriller and sci-fi genres.


CLIPPED Music Video Festival

Held during Vivid Sydney 2019, CLIPPED Music Video Festival is the only event solely dedicated to music videos. As such, it has become a highlight of the Vivid Sydney program and combines an interactive music video exhibition and new awards format with screenings and Australian premieres. This year’s CLIPPED Music Video Festival shines a spotlight on Australian and New Zealand filmmakers. The festival also includes panels, industry talks and masterclasses with local and international guest speakers who’ll be there to answer your questions.


Audiocraft Podcast Festival (31 May - 2 June 2019)

Audiomakers and those who tune in to podcasts will love the Audiocraft Podcast Festival that features some of the best in the business. Hear from the likes of international guests such as Avery Trufelman (99% Invisible, Radiotopia), Ian Chillag (Everything is Alive, Radiotopia), Jonathan Zenti (Voxnest/Meat) and Natalie Tulloch (Spotify, NYC). Don’t forget to check out some of the local guests including Mark Pesce (The Next Billion Seconds, PodcastOne), Travis De Vries (Broriginals), Stephanie Van Schilt (Sisteria) and Tim Roxburgh (Unravel, ABC). Audiocraft Podcast Festival is a great chance for those just starting out in podcasting to learn more about the craft and hone their skills with dedicated workshops and masterclasses.
