Australia’s Top Tourism Town Revealed

Mudgee, New South Wales, has been named Australia's Top Tourism Town for 2021, according to the Hon Dan Tehan, Minister for Trade, Tourism, and Investment, at today's inaugural Top Tourism Town event.

Tourism towns from all over Australia compete for the title of Australia's Top Tourism Town in these prestigious awards (with a population over 5000). Mudgee won the Gold Medal, with Noosa in Queensland taking Silver and New Norfolk in Tasmania taking Bronze.

Berrima, New South Wales, won the Gold Medal for the 2021 Small Tourism Town (population under 5000), with Port Fairy, Victoria, taking Silver and Stanley, Tasmania, taking Bronze.

According to Daniel Gschwind, Chair of the Australian Tourism Awards, these awards recognise towns across Australia that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to encouraging tourism and increasing visitation to their destination.

“As we get closer to all interstate borders re-opening and enjoy a renewed focus on domestic tourism, these awards put the spotlight on our tourism communities and the amazing experiences that can be had throughout Australia.” Mr Gschwind said.

“Our tourism industry has faced enormous challenges over the past 18 months, but the awards have provided a welcome reminder to us all of how resilient, strong and inspiring the tourism community is.”

Finalists for Australia’s Top Tourism Town awards were the Gold winners at their state/territory run Top Tourism Town award process.

Mr Gschwind concluded, “All of our finalists can be extremely proud to represent their state or territory in this national competition. The submissions showed what a truly diverse country we live in, with inspiring experiences throughout. Congratulations to the winners and all finalists.”
