Sydney Barista and Jozo Cafe Share $10,000 Tip in Heartwarming Win

There’s good news brewing in Paddington, where a popular local barista and his café have received a generous $10,000 reward for bringing a little extra happiness to their customers.

Johnny Phonafai, a barista at Jozo Cafe in Paddington, has been recognised as one of the latest winners of MILKLAB’s Australia’s Greatest Tip, an initiative celebrating the hardworking baristas and café owners who make Australia's coffee culture so special.

Known for his friendly banter, infectious enthusiasm and ability to brighten his customers’ mornings, Johnny submitted a light-hearted video showcasing a typical day behind the coffee machine. From preparing regular orders to sharing laughs with customers, his entry captured the personality and community spirit that make neighbourhood cafés such an important part of Sydney life.

His efforts earned him and Jozo Cafe a $10,000 prize, shared equally between Johnny and the café, with each receiving $5,000.

A Welcome Boost for Sydney Hospitality

With rising operating costs and ongoing challenges facing Australia's hospitality industry, the prize comes at a particularly welcome time.

Participants can enter by posting a video on Instagram or TikTok, tagging @milklabco and using #AustraliasGreatestTip.

Each month, a standout entry is selected to receive a $10,000 prize, recognising the creativity, dedication and community spirit of Australia's café industry.

For Johnny and the Jozo Cafe team, the win is more than a financial boost. It's recognition of the small, everyday gestures that make customers feel welcome and keep them coming back.
