Sydney Siege: A Pointless Crime

George St Sydney Siege

We Sydneysider's never expected that our city could be shutdown because of the actions of one man, yet that’s exactly what happened yesterday on a day that turned the CBD into a ghost town and will always be remembered as the Sydney Siege.

My heart bleeds for the victims who were subjected to such trauma and I can’t even begin to imagine what the families and friends of the two innocent people who lost their lives in this pointless crime are going through right now.

Man Monis got the publicity he wanted at the cost of his life and the lives of two innocent people. What makes this tragic situation so more painful is this man, who was welcomed into our country, had a string of charges against him including accessory to the brutal murder of his wife and numerous sexual assaults and he was on bail! So how does a person with such notoriety including writing disgraceful letters to the families of Australian killed servicemen obtain a gun and be able to take control of a busy café right in the heart of the CBD?

From all this chaos, Australians do what they do best and that is come together to support each other. I think that was shown with the hashtag #illridewithyou.

Deepest condolences to the families of the victims of this tragic crime.
