Best Restaurants in Sydney: Yok Thai Manly

Zucchini Flowers

One of my favourite restaurants, when I was a Manly local, was Yok Thai. I lived in Manly for over 6 years and visited Yok Thai frequently. I still go back to have a meal there with my family, and I still get excited each time because it really is that good!

I have always found the staff to be exceptionally polite and customer service orientated. Along with a nice ambience, both inside and out, Yok Thai is well worth a visit. I’d advise you to book though, especially Thursday – Sunday.

Now that I live in the inner city – well Potts Point to be exact; I do miss the crisp fresh air of Manly and the choice of great restaurants and bars, especially in summer.

Yok Thai’s menu is full of dishes that their chefs invent with the freshest ingredients they can find. The menu consists of a range of tapas, mains and desserts.

For tapas the three of us shared Duck Pancakes (x 2 each) and Zucchini Flowers (x 1 each). The Duck Pancakes are truly delicious and I could probably sit down and eat 10 of them if I allowed myself!

The Stuffed Zucchini Flowers are filled with chicken, prawn, garlic and black pepper and served lightly battered, with the stalks still crisp.

Andrew opted for the Duck Panang Curry with blood plum, lychee and fresh Asian herbs in lime-dressing. I need to point out here the servings are large and there was nothing left in his bowl! He told me that this was the first time he had ordered a duck curry and he loved it.

Grace decided on the Prawn Pad Thai. I’ve had this dish at Yok Thai many times myself, and I can tell you I have also had some Pad Thai’s that have nearly put me off for life! Not this case, all fresh ingredients and noodles cooked to perfection.

For me, I opted for the Crispy Barramundi, with betel leaf, Thai lime, toasted peanut, ginger, shallot, and Thai herb salad. When it arrived I knew there was no way I would finish the dish, it was very generous. The fish was beautifully presented and all bones removed so no nasty surprises. I was more than happy with my Barramundi, which was cooked to perfection and the accompanying salad was very tasty and matched perfectly, quite sweet though.

If you love beaches, and Thai food then this is one trip you need to take. I’m sure any readers from the Northern Beaches don’t need me to tell them this though; all the locals know that Yok Thai is a winner.

Sorrry for quality of photos, I did not visit to do a review so only had my iPhone not a camera plus, I get in serious trouble with my family when I take photos at family dinners... so I have to sort of sneak it quickly. Oh the pressure!
