Best Restaurants in Sydney: Windows on the Park - Pullman Sydney Hyde Park

I’m a big fan of the Sydney Pullman Hyde Park for a number of reasons; the service, the attentive staff, the facilities and Windows on the Park Restaurant. Recently I was invited to dine at Windows on the Park to try out the new menu, and I’m glad I was not dissapointed.

Windows on the Park is an elegant restaurant with great views over Hyde Park, at night you can see the lights and watch the people wandering through the park, and in summer, it’s lovely to watch the sunset over the buildings. I attended with my friend, and contributing editor to Sydney Chic, Christopher Haggarty, and on arrival we were warmly greeted by Tommy, who ushered us to a lovely table by the Window.

We ordered a bottle of Rococo Yarra Valley Blanc de Blanc, very refreshing and a perfect start to the evening.

Choosing what to eat was a little difficult because so many of the dishes sounded delicious. After much thinking I ordered:

Pan seared potato gnocchi, pumpkin gel, semi dried cherry tomatoes, aged Parmesan and baby herbs. 15

When gnocchi is prepared and cooked properly it’s one of my favourite. This dish had everything going for it, especially the pan searing which added some somewhat sweet flavour. The gnocchi sat on a bed of pureed pumpkin, which was so soft and delicately flavoured that was a perfect texture match. The cherry tomatoes also added a hint of sweetness when combined with the gnocchi and pumpkin with the little baby herbs adding that little extra. I could easily have this one again.

Sous vide lamb rump, potato puree, king brown mushroom and baby pea tendrils. 38

The lamb was cooked to perfection, tender and easy to cut, like the gnocchi it sat on a bed of puree, this time it was potato. The puree was divine with no lumps and went perfect with the lamb. What really got my taste buds happy was the king brown mushrooms that were a great match with this dish. The texture and flavour of the mushrooms really made an impact on me.

Glass of The Traveller Shiraz. 8

During the mains Chef Kunal came to say hello to us. I was surprised to hear from him that the plate of beautiful vegetables we ordered as a side dish, had many of the vegetables grown on a balcony of the hotel! That was a WOW factor to me because how fresh can you get? As you can see from the photos the vegetables were vibrant in colour and cooked perfectly.

Pullman’s apple flan with French vanilla bean ice cream with warm butterscotch sauce. 18

If the entrée and mains didn’t have you drooling by now, this one will. A gorgeous French flan, crispy thin pastry with finely sliced apple with a butterscotch sauce and it was a big hit! More please!

Christopher dined on:

Seared scallops, apple slaw, parsnip mash and Spanish chorizo. 17

Christopher enjoyed his scallops saying that the chorizo added a pleasant contrast to the perfectly scallops. The parsnip mash and apple slaw added some pizzazz to the dish.

Slow cooked duck shanks, Du Puy lentils, pear bubbles and young beats. 39

The presentation was beautiful with the pear bubbles adding a touch of flavour and an interesting garnish along with the delicate flowers. Loved the tender duck shanks with the young beats.

Christopher enjoyed a glass of Riposte Pinto Noir with his main meal. 12

Lemon curd and Italian meringue sandwich, raspberry sorbet, lemon balm and mandarins. 20

A fabulous dessert beautifully presented, refreshing and a wonderful finish to the meal.

As you can see our dinner was fantastic and I would recommend Windows on the Park to anyone wishing to experience some delightful flavours, good scenery and relaxing atmosphere. Maybe package it up with an overnight stay at the Pullman as well?
