Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!! El' Circo Blanc production at Slide.

That’s right Sydney it’s time for Slide’s mid-winter production from the creators of El’ Circo. This season’s show is “El’ Circo Blanc” and the theme is a Russian Winter Circus.

SLIDE is perhaps Sydney’s best kept secret ! Reminiscent of Bruce Wayne’s lair its tucked away in grand old heritage bank at the Hyde Park end of Oxford St, Darlinghurst. Resplendent with grand chandeliers, marble and a stunning mezzanine level and stage this venue exudes opulence and mystery making it the ideal venue for these famous cabaret dinner shows.

And this is exactly what we were invited to enjoy here at Sydney Chic.

It was a feast for the senses as we frolic-ed our way through 5 courses of delicious Russian inspired food and 5 acts of scintillating performances in song, dance, acrobatic and aerial... Cabaret at its very best as we danced, sang and clapped along to some well known tunes; gasped at the incredible displays of aerial acrobatics and pole dancing; giggled at the mime acts and the clown; all the while savouring a delicious meal and some seriously good wine.

This really typifies a great fun night out in Sydney folks. It’s perfect for groups but there were also lots of couples. The service was very attentive; upon arriving we were welcomed with a warm glass of cinnamon spiced mulled wine, the ideal way to warm up from the cold outside... Perfect! As the show started and the house lights lowered we were then treated to a professional display of old school cabaret style theatre but with modern nuances of song and dance inspired largely by the brilliance of the aerial acrobats utlising silks and straps - soaring above our heads as we sat at our table. And all following a story and based around the Russian winter circus theme.

As each act concluded the next phase of the evenings menu was delivered, all in perfect sync by the very professional team of waitstaff at SLIDE. The 5 course degustation menu was as follows...

SOLYANKA & SUKARIKI Hearty vegetable soup served with a crispy crouton, creme fraiche and dill

COULIBIAC Brioche pastry filled with layers of Atlantic salmon fillet, rice, egg and mushroom, served with a lemon butter and chive sauce - (this was my favourite and I’m not usually a salmon fan but it was cooked beautifully!)

BABUSHKA’S SECRET Goulash of braised lamb shoulder served in a rustic bread bowl and topped with sour cream

RUSSIAN TEMPTATIONS Korzinochki (profiterole) filled with blueberry cream cheese and served with a hot vodka punch (and wow did this pack a punch!! )

To finish... DOME OF SAINT BASIL Charlotte of white chocolate mousse and lady fingers, topped with a gilded meringue dome and served with creme anglaise and raspberry coulis.

So as you can see there was a bevy of culinary delights served but no matter how enjoyable the meal it couldn’t compete with the enjoyment of watching the show. As I said all in all a wonderful night out Sydney!

Prices for the 5 course degustation and 5 winter circus acts are $89 per person. Slide is a fully licensed venue and their wine list is extensive and their bar well stocked, including an array of custom designed cocktails.

Whether for a fun date night, a hens party, group gathering or work function, I urge you to enjoy this locally produced evening of food, fun and entertainment @SLIDE - a venue worth checking out in itself.

I can only hope we’ll be invited to another event there soon!

See you soon - stay STYLISH...
