Barney Miller Surf Classic

Barney Miller, then 20 years old and on his path to becoming a pro surfer, was a promising young surfer in 1999. On his way to work as a White Water Rafting River Guide on a rainy Easter Saturday morning, he was a passenger in a car accident that shattered his neck, paralysed him from the chest down, and diagnosed him as a total C6 Quadriplegic. Specialists warned him he'd never be able to breathe on his own, use his right arm, or walk, run, or surf again. Those words fuelled his fire, and for the past 20 years, Barney has continued to defy the odds by regaining strength in both arms, learning to stand again, taking assisted steps, and competing for Australia in the ISA World Adaptive Surf Championships, where he was crowned World Champion and brought home a gold medal for Australia.

There is a lot more to this story and I'll be chatting with Barns and his beautiful wife, Kada soon on their amazing life and resilience. By the way Kada, is a singer songwriter so please do yourself a favour and listen to her beautiful voice –– Kada Miller Spotify.

Please help Barney support others who have had had tragedy strike their lives. This year money raised is going to the wife of shark victim, Tim Thompson whose life was taken by a shark in September 2021. Tim's wife, Katie, will be able to use the funds to support herself and baby daughter.
