Sydneysiders are set to be taken on an adventure with the launch of Jackalberry, an immersive cocktail bar in the Sydney CBD. Named after the native African tree, Jackalberry Sydney offers a glimpse of the world’s flavours with each of its thoughtfully concocted cocktails, food options and lush interiors, allowing guests to be transported around the world without leaving the city.
Nestled in a stunning heritage building on Sussex Street Sydney, Jackalberry is designed as the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the Sydney CBD. The eclectic bar design features an abundance of greenery, dramatic wallpaper and velvet booth seating. Interior stylist Belinda Cendron from Sourceress who has previously worked on Manly Wine, Baxter Inn, Shady Pines and The Winery, has said of the space:
“Drawing inspiration from the cocktail list and the age of exploration, the venue was designed to take patrons from day to night, with a rich botanical feel, featuring time worn materials like, rattan and stone, contrasted with rich velvets and illustrated wallpapers. It is an adventurous space reflecting the work and studies of botanists and voyagers - a retreat for the modern-day explorer.”
Jackalberry’s cocktail menu reads like an explorer’s journey from northern Italy, through the bamboo forest of Japan, onward to the great Amazonian jungle and everywhere in between. Each cocktail plays on flavours from their respective region with bartenders acting as modern-day alchemists to create an enchanting experience. Stuart Thompson will head up the Jackalberry bar team and brings a wealth of experience from previous roles at Untied, Uncle Mings Bar and The Morrison Bar and Oyster Room.
“Jackalberry is inspired by the age of exploration, there will be something new and unique to discover on each visit. We have worked hard to design a cocktail menu that will transport guests to Tanzania one evening, and Italy the next through experimentation of flavours and presentation,” said Jackalberry Bar Manager Stuart Thompson.
Highlight destinations on the Jackalberry cocktail menu include:
• Cancun Mexico - The Yucatán Punch evokes a tropical Cancun getaway with its Ilegal Reposado Mezcal, Licor 43 passionfruit, lime, spiced agave and of course Don Julio Blanco tequila.
• London, UK - Lovers of gin can escape to London with the Hampstead Heath, a mix of Sipsmith Gin, crème Yvette, blackberry sorbet, lime juice and cardamom.
• Dar es Salaam, Tanzania - The Livingstone Tiki cocktail gives a taste of Tanzania with its Emperor Heritage Mauritian Rum, Dobson Distillery Oak Aged Saffron Gin, Rooibos Tisane, Lemon Oleo Saccharum and Rosemary honey.
• Kyoto, Japan – For a quick trip to Japan, enjoy the Arashiyama that evokes fresh bamboo forests with Sake, Roku Gin and Kiwi fruit cucumber.
The bar food menu will continue the exploration theme by consisting of a global selection of shareable small portioned comfort food favourites from various popular cuisines from Europe, Asia and the Americas. Indulge in the Norwegian style smoked cod fritters served with sea vegetables, dill tartare and preserved citrus; or bite into Marrakesh with the Stuffed Pumpkin Flowers full of Moroccan flavours including date, kumara puree and bronze fennel.
