How To Style The Classic One Piece Swimsuit

One-piece swimming costumes have been popular for decades, and for good reason, too. Not only are they super flattering and can suit any body type or size, but they can be worn with a variety of other clothing to create new outfits.

Trousers

The first outfit you can try with one-piece swimsuits is to pair them with trousers. Form-fitting trousers paired with a costume create a sleek and upmarket look but without the investment needed for designer clothes.

Midi Skirt

Perfect for Summer or evening cocktails, a one-piece with a midi-skirt is a fun and easy outfit for so many occasions. You can take the look up a notch by pairing a neutral midi-skirt with a bright costume or vice versa.

Jeans

A favourite amongst festival-goers, the combination of a swimsuit with jeans is skyrocketing in popularity. Not only is it perfect for a lunch date or a party, but you can dress it up or down simply by changing your shoes; sandals, sneakers, and heels are all an option.

Sarong & Sneakers

For a more casual look that will suit both the beach and a Summer brunch date, you should pair your costume with a sarong and sneakers. The combination is super comfortable and airy and perfect for those days when it is just too hot to wear regular clothes.

Shorts

Similar to pairing your costume with pants, adding shorts is simply the Summer version of that. Once again, if you throw on a pair of heels, you have the perfect club outfit, and sneakers are casual comfort personified.

Blazer & Skirt

If you want a more formal touch, a blazer, and a skirt is the best way to turn a one-piece costume into something that will fit right in at a fancy dinner or a cocktail party. You can take it a step further and choose a pantsuit with the blazer undone. It is a unique, stylish, and super-versatile outfit.

Denim Jacket & Jeans

Denim on denim may be a trend from the 90s, but it has seen a resurgence over the past couple of years. If the full denim look isn’t for you, wearing a one-piece with a denim skirt or jeans paired with an open denim jacket is a more modern and stylish look.

White Button-Down Shirt

Finally, another casual look that is great for the beach or poolside is a flowy white button-down shirt paired with your costume. It’s a simple look that is perfect for those wanting a bit more coverage, but not be weighed down by extra clothing.

How to Choose a One-Piece Swimsuit

Choosing a one-piece swimsuit, especially one that you want to use for more than swimming, can be a bit tricky. However, here are a few tips you can use to pick the best possible suit.

Size

Firstly, you need to ensure you get the right size. No matter what body shape you have, it is also best to opt for a form-fitting suit. There are multiple reasons for this, but the two most important ones are comfort and overall look.

A one-piece that is too big or too small will simply be just too uncomfortable to wear for any length of time. A skin-tight suit is also far easier to style and wear with other clothes.

Style

There are many different styles of one-piece swimsuits. A classic style is the most simple and the one you are probably most familiar with. There are no frills and fuss; the classic style is beautiful in its simplicity.

The romantic style is one with extra touches that set it apart. You have thinner straps, a few frills, decorations, etc, that make it stand out from the crowd. The romantic style swimsuit is one that doesn’t need anything else to look better.

Finally, the jumper style is a swimsuit that resembles a bikini but is connected by a jumper. The humper can be very narrow and cover a small part of the abdomen, and it can also be very wide and look like a more unique version of the classic style.

Material

Tactel, polyamide, and microfibre are all brilliant material choices for a swimsuit. Not only are they the best at resisting salt water and sun damage, but they are also less likely to fade and look worn over a short period of time.

If you want to wear your costume for more than just swimming, choose a costume that is softer to the touch and think about it more in terms of regular clothing. If you won’t wear a shirt made of a certain material, don’t buy a costume in that material.

Versatility

Versatility is something that will be determined by the style of costume you choose. A more simple design in a neutral colour will be one of the most versatile types of costumes as it can be easily mixed and matched with any and everything.

The one-piece swimsuit is far more versatile than you may have first thought. While it isn’t a great option for Winter, it can be paired with a multitude of different items to create a variety of outfits that can fit in the office and in the club.
