Sydney Cafes | Cafe Oratnek

This hidden gem in Redfern is well worth a visit, but be warned if you are going on a weekend you may need to wait a while for a table because of it's popularity. Seating is inside and outside and when I visited it was a pleasant way to spend an hour. I think it's a good sign when a cafe has people lining up to get inside!

The breakfast menu has a range of delicious items such as:

  • banana loaf, kuromitsu butter 5.50

  • organic unbleached sourdough, rye, gluten free, pea butter, spread 6 poached eggs, organic unbleached sourdough, house made chutney (v) 11

  • thick bacon & egg roll, spicy green tomato chutney, leaves, mustard mayo 12

And some of the lunch dishes on offer:

  • Salad 17

  • beetroot, pomegranate, quinoa, basil, mint, wonton croutons, ponzu (v,df)

  • calamari, spicy cabbage slaw, mint, parsley, coriander, basil, cucumber (gf)

  • chicken, burdock, cucumber, carrot, mizuna, roasted sesame dressing (df) Sandwich 12

  • 200g pork fillet katsu, cabbage, Japanese bbq sauce, mustard (df) vegetable tempura, mild spiced miso-mayo (v) chicken teriyaki, leaves, japanese root vegetables, chilli mayo (df) seasonal summer selection omurice, peas, bacon, cheese tomato fried rice, wrapped egg omelette 18

  • salt & pepper soft shell crab burger, leaves, wasabi tartare, aonori chips 19

I opted for the salt and pepper soft shell crab burger and clearly my eyes are bigger than my stomach because I couldn't finish it, not because it didn't taste great, it's a big serve and the chips were fantastic.

The cafe is soon to expand to offer dinner so I'll be posting about that soon.
