A Saturday in Glebe

Sometimes the inner city life can get exhausting. The crowded streets, trying to move out of people’s way as they run to catch their train, and the overall busy vibe of the central business district can really tire you out.

That’s why a Saturday visit to Glebe is always something to look forward to. This suburb is very chill, and even though it is only a mere 10 minutes away from Sydney, you’ll feel hours away.

Glebe Markets

The first stop in the morning is Glebe Markets. Held at Glebe Public School, these markets are full of character and style, with stalls full of new and second hand goodies. Here you’ll find vintage clothes, unique one-off pieces, plants, beautiful jewelry, and delicious food. The best part about these markets is that there are different stallholders every Saturday, so whenever you go, you’re always sure to find something new. Free music is also performed on the lawn from 12-3pm, so pull up a patch of grass with a cup of sugar cane juice in hand and enjoy!

Things to do in Sydney Glebe

Another must see in Glebe is Halchemy Design Antiques and Oddities, which is only a short two-minute walk from the markets. This shop is filled to the brim with antique treasures, and it’s always a struggle to walk away without buying something! Unique items are sourced and collected from all over the globe, so if you do give into temptation and buy, it’ll definitely be a dinner party conversation starter!

Sappho Books Glebe

Just opposite the primary school is Sappho Books, and if you love second hand books and coffee, then this is the place for you. With over 30,000 titles available ranging from arts to history, it would be so easy to spend hours here. If you need to sit back and relax after trawling through books, then out the back is a courtyard where you can enjoy a nice coffee and something delicious from the menu

Besides these places, Glebe Point Road is lined with terrific shops and eateries. And just a short walk away is access to the Broadway Shopping Centre if you haven’t already shopped till you dropped!

To walk off some of the tasty food, head over to Blackwattle Bay Park. This park is located on the Glebe foreshore and has spectacular and unique views of Sydney Harbour and the city. There is a shared walking, running, and biking track, with a children’s play area as well for the kids. A perfect finish to a relaxing day.
