7 Ways To Make Windows Secure

7 Ways To Make Windows Secure

Windows are a common entry point for burglars and intruders. By securing your windows, you can put off anyone who may be thinking of climbing in. Just what are some of the best ways to make windows secure? Below are just 5 measures that can keep would-be intruders out.

Burglar alarm

One way to secure your windows is to fit alarms to them. There are alarms that can be stuck to your windows, which are triggered by movement. If someone tried to open the window, the alarm will go off, alerting you or your neighbours. You can also buy smart alarms that trigger an alert on your phone for when you’re not at home.

Rose bushes

Growing some thorny plants beneath your window could make accessing your window less tempting for burglars. While you can opt for brambles or nettles, roses can often make a much more pretty option. Just be wary that roses are not the easiest plants to maintain - unless you’re a keen gardener, you may find that this security measure is too much hassle.

Shutters

Shutters come in various different forms including roller shutters, batten board shutters and plantation shutters, and they can be placed on the inside or outside of your windows. In all cases, they can help to keep out intruders by providing a solid barrier over windows. The most secure shutters are metal roller shutters over the exterior window, however other options like wooden interior plantation shutters can still provide a layer of security. So, be sure to check them out at Half Price Blinds because they will definitely beef up your window security.

Stainless steel mesh

Security steel mesh can be added to large panels of glass to reduce the risk of someone breaking in. Glass doors covered in steel mesh are also some of the most popular security doors for letting in light and providing security. Steel mesh is often more favoured on commercial properties as it can make residential properties look slightly less warm and friendly. That said, there are some more ornate forms of steel mesh that can look less hostile.

Security glass

You can also opt for security glass, which is made from high-grade polyacrylic combined with layers of annealed glass. Such glass is designed to be difficult to break and is ideal for large panes of glass. The downside of security glass is that it can be quite expensive.

Window locks

Installing interior locks on the inside of windows can make it harder for a burglar to prise them open from the outside. The most basic form of lock is a single manually operated bolt, however it’s possible to install much more complicated locks that may be possible to lock shut with a key.

Casement windows

Casement windows are designed to be virtually impossible to open from the outside. They do not provide any lip when closed, so they cannot be prised open. Casement windows can be available in a variety of materials including aluminium, uPVC and timber. They are commonly installed in new homes because of their superior security.
