The Two of Us played at The Art House as part of a national tour. Damien Leith and Darren Coggan perform some of the songs of Lennon and McCartney.

With a string trio, Leith and Coggan play acoustic guitars and Leith plays piano for some of the songs such as Hey Jude and Imagine. It was surprising that there were no drums, electric guitars or bass. If they played it, that first chord of A Hard Day’s Night wouldn’t have sounded the same on acoustic guitar.

Other songs include All You Need Is Love, Help, Mull Of Kintyre, Eleanor Rigby, Let It Be, Jealous Guy, Beautiful Boy, Blackbird and more.

If you close your eyes you won’t be thinking that you’e listening to the former Beatles. In fact, Coggan often sounds like Cat Stevens doing Paul McCartney.

To get on my hobby horse about musos writing comedy, the show would benefit immeasurably from the engagement of an experienced stand-up comedian who would tighten up the comedy bits and rewrite most of them.

The perpetually smiling Coggan and the more serious Leith are excellent musicians and singers who perform the slower versions of the songs and the slower songs well.
